Donald Rumsfeld is now the ex-secretary of defence. He was [fired](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6130296.stm) last night (read: “resigned”) after Bush lost the midterm elections.
This is likely the best news of the year.
Now, could someone please investigate the whole Iraq war, the torture scandal, and the whole corruption bit?
Someone on the local radio station that hosts NPR news called him “Rumsfield.” That was the funniest news of the day, anyway. No comment on the best news of the year.
It is good news. Rumsfeld is at best incompetent; at worst he is a war criminal. That is not for me to judge (though of course I have no problem stating my opinion that he probably ranks the later). He really should have resigned over the prison torture scandal. As the defense minister he is directly responsible for the conduct of his soldiers, no matter whether he was personally involved in setting the policy to torture prisoners or not. (And even if it really was not official policy, this makes the conduct of US troops not one bit less horrifying. Again, the defense minister is the one ultimately responsible.)
