Putting 9/11 into Perspective

America marks the [6th anniversarry](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6989189.stm) of the [destruction of the World Trade Center](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11%2C_2001_attacks). Here are some quick figures:

### Cost of 9/11 attacks on New York ###

* 2,974 dead (plus 24 remaining listed as “missing”)
* $95 billion (of which $22 billion are to replace the damaged / destroyed buildings)

### Cost of the Iraq War ###

* 654,965 dead (estimated; as of June 2006; includes 3,770 US soldiers)
* [$421 billion](http://zfacts.com/p/447.html)

I know that the [Iraq war](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_War) and 9/11 have nothing in common whatsoever (except for the [connection a delusional President Bush made](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3119676.stm)). The point is a different one: There are many things that are a lot worse than 9/11 was, and some of them are committed by Americans. Willingly. Without any good reason whatsoever.

Yes, I am getting tired of the 9/11 whining. Get over it already.
