A Stroke of Nostalgia

I just discovered something on YouTube that let my geeky little heart beat faster. Something from the good old days, when MTV would still should the occasional white person on their shows. You know, even way back before they ceased to be a cultural icon.

YouTube has a handful of Zig & Zag clips.

Yes, I will out myself, I used to watch Zig & Zag when they were still on TV, and I liked them. Go ahead, call me a nerd. Call me weird. Hell, call me old man. If you were born after 1980, you won’t remember these guys.

Riverworld (TV Movie)

Watched the Sci-Fi Channel “made for tv” movie Riverworld the other day. Oh boy did that suck. I mean they butchered the characters, the backstory and the setting, the plot, pretty much everything. About the only thing it had in common with the book were some of the character names, and the fact that there was a river in it. Any lengthy review of this piece of utter and complete garbage would be a waste of bandwidth. Avoid at all cost: If someone threatens to kill you with a gun if you do not watch it, choose death. I am quite serious, this has got to be the worst book adaption ever filmed. And I have seen Starship Troopers.

Big Brother – Nigeria?!

Every morning I read the BBC News. Today, I stumbled upon a report that Big Brother Nigeria had started.

Now, unlike some other people (who shan’t be named and shamed here, if you want to out yourself do so in the comments ;) ) I never watched Big Brother, though of course it was hard to ignore Big Brother completely when it first hit Germany. I was still occasionally watching TV back then.

Out of curiosity I did check out the female contestants, and none of them is as pretty as my friend Bolanle. I’ll have to interview her what she thinks of Big Brother.

It’d be kind of interesting, however, to know how Big Brother Nigeria goes in comparison to, say, European or American editions of the same show. Will it be tamer or wilder? I could see it go either way – On the one hand, Nigeria has a large Muslim population who would object to any sex scenes or whatnot – remember the Miss World protests of last year – but on the other hand candidates in a poor country like Nigeria would be willing to go much further for the US$100000 offered as prize money.
